I’ve been happy with my Alpinestars gloves for over a year now and they have faithfully served me well, they still are serving me well; but the Knox Hand Armour Gloves are making a big impression on me…  I’ll be concentrating on the flagship Knox Handroid Glove today.

At first glance they appear to be a prop from an episode of power rangers (But then I know some of you would love that anyway).  The feature set on the gloves is actually very compelling.

First thing you notice is the skeletal looking finger guards, made from deformable plastic material it provides impact protection along the length of the fingers that other gloves simply do not have, interestingly there are notches engineered into the finger guards that lock up with finger hyperextension [bending backwards] helping to prevent dislocation.

The main knuckle guard is substantive with an underplate covering the breadth of the knuckles offering comfortable protection.  Knox have come up with a decidedly competent fastening system which they call “The Boa”.

This intuitive little system ratchets the wrist guards to your wrist as tightly as you want it, to release the tension in the cords all you have to do is grab the button and lift it up a notch.  The system works brilliantly in practice and removing the gloves by hand when they are done up is impossible.

They felt comfortable, secure and safe.  The wrist pads that are drawn in with the “Boa” system are chunky without being oversized and causing annoyance.

Turning the glove over you can see what Knox are calling the “Scaphoid protection system”, the Scaphoid is the bone that joins your thumb to your wrist and often takes a battering if you land with your hands down.  Knox have put in three plastic sliders on the scaphoid area and the knife edge of the hand, enabling your hands to slide out in front rather than levering your body over them which carries a far greater risk of breaking bones.

There has been a lot of thought and attention to detail with the gloves, they’ve even placed a leather tab on the underside so you can easily tug the glove on and off.  On top of all of this the kangaroo leather palm contruction is comfortable and tough with excellent feedback to the hand, the rest of the construction is Japanese Aniline drum dried leather – very soft and supple.  Impressed with Knox on this one.

The latest offering from Shoei Helmets is now available to pre-order at GhostBikes. Due to be released in early September the Shoei Qwest Motorcycle Helmet is aiming to be the best possible touring helmet. The Shoei development department was briefed to find the best balance between a comfortable, lightweight and effective noise-cancelling helmet that would be a pleasure to wear…

The video below highlights the key features of the new Shoei Qwest Helmets

GhostBikes will be stocking the following Shoei Qwest Motorcycle Helmets

Shoei Qwest Airfoil Motorcycle Helmet

Shoei Qwest Airfoil Motorcycle Helmet

Shoei Qwest Motorcycle Helmet

Shoei Qwest Motorcycle Helmet which is available in 4 colours

Shoei Qwest Paragon Motorcycle Helmet

Shoei Qwest Paragon Motorcycle Helmet which is available in three styles

These are all ready to pre-order now, there is no deposit needed and you will be called to take payment when they are ready for dispatch (Early September) by pre-ordering you will be ensuring that you are one of the first to have these fantastic new Shoei helmets which are set to become a best seller without handing over your cash a month in advance!

The Qwest will replace the discontinued Shoei Raid, a sturdy performer, although it is updated with five shell sizes and a new visor system – the QRSA. (Quick. Release. Self. Adjusting). The quick release is straightforward enough, but the self-adjusting part is new for Shoei and rather clever. The visor is gently spring-loaded and ensures a snug fit against the seal of the helmet.

In addition, the peripheral vision has been extended and the Pinlock system is longer and no longer interferes in any part of the forward vision. We’ve just taken delivery of one and been given chapter and verse on its benefits, so we’ll report back. All we can say for now is that it’s light – 1,371g – the visor is easy to remove and finish is well up to Shoei’s standards.

Hi Ghostbikes.com readers,

My name is Harris, I am your new blogger for the ghostbikes.com website. Many of you will have met me already in our retail store on Deepdale Mill Street, Preston.

It’s my job to let you know what’s going on with us and to keep you informed of what we are up to and where it’s happening.

Riding is something close to my heart and if there is any excuse to go out for a blast round the glorious A roads we have in the North West I will take it.  Occasionally I will go in for the more leisurely cruises but my current ride; the GSXR750, doesn’t overly lend itself to that.

I am hoping [and ever optimistic to get the time off!] to do a trip through Europe at some point and so if anyone has any recommended routes, places to stop or any mad stories they want to share then I’d encourage you to comment.  You can catch me on the http://www.northwestbikers.net/forum/ as well where I go by the alias “HBW”.

Are you looking for the perfect present for your favourite motorbiking female this winter? Whether you’re shopping for your girlfriend, Mum, sister or friend Ghostbikes have hand tested a whole range of helmets, boots and bike gear that will put a smile on their face. Here’s ten of our best:

1.   The Womens Oxford Bone Dry 2009 Motorbike Jacket is a versatile, windproof and rainproof piece of quality motorcycle kit. Its breathable textile fabric makes this an extremely lightweight choice. Oxford’s design also benefits from reflective piping and a removable thermal lining and comes in black with a choice of accentuating colours.

Ride light: this Oxford textile jacket takes the weight off

2.   Looking for a women’s jacket with a racing style? The Duchinni Trax Womens Motorcycle Jacket incorporates a serious sports style with quality materials. It is made from 100 per cent leather with a fitted airtex lining, so it looks great and fits close around the body. With armoured shoulders, elbows, cuffs and collars lined with fleece, this is a luxury biking item for a serious female rider.

3.   Alongside Duchinni’s tailored jacket are the Duchinni Trax Ladies Motorcycle Trousers which can easily be attached via a strong connecting zip. These are ideal for riders who like the protection of a one-suit but don’t want the restrictions. This quality leather product is lined and contains Knox armour.

Real rider gear: Duchinni's leather trousers are built for comfort and maximum road protection

4.   The Buffalo Planet Womens Motorcycle Jacket is made from the finest quality cow hide to give it a sleek and quality feel and to give you maximum protection from the road. The elbow and shoulders include CE approved armour for added defence. This jacket is specially lined for additional comfort.

5.  Buffalo Planet Ladies Motorcycle Trousers are a particularly durable set of riding trousers made from 100 per cent leather and lined with Polyester for added comfort. They include stretch panels for a body-hugging fit and are double and triple stitched throughout.

6.   Women can wear whatever helmets men can, and they often pull off the look better too. But if you’re looking for a helmet with a particularly feminine twist you could try the HJC CS-12N Cyclone Motorcycle Helmet. This has the same great features as a quality men’s helmet, including an ACU Glodt Standard for track use, an aerodynamic shell and a quick release visor system. The only difference is you can purchase it in red or pink, and set yourself apart from all that testosterone on the roads.

Gone with the wind: the HJC Cyclone has a dramatic silver design and host of safety features so you can leave the competition behind

7.   One of our most popular helmets is also one of the only helmets to be awarded the Sharp Four Star rating for safety and it’s a great choice for women who want to add a bit of colour to their rider. The hot pink Duchinni D701 Motorcycle Helmet is a guaranteed head turner.

8.   Possible the most fantastic women-only products to come out this season are the Sidi Vertigo Lei Ladies Motorcycle Boots. These high performance Sidis include a shock absorbent foot shell, shin plates and several advanced features to ensure complete safety on the road. Plus their sharp black and red design looks amazing.

Built for speed: these Sidi Lei boots are tough and tapered to fit

9.   For a fully waterproof, breathable boot that looks sleek and uncluttered, check out Blytz Ladies Motorcycle Boots. With Velcro closure and a non-slip grip, this footwear is a simple but effective way to ride with comfort and style.

10.   Everyone knows the Shoei brand – they include most respected helmet manufacturers in the business and their unique designs are probably the most coveted in the motorcycle world. Now they have given the classic Shoei design a sharp feminine twist with the Shoei Raid II Couture Motorcycle Helmet – proving their belief that female riders can play a man’s game.
Image conscious: the Shoei brand is respected by every motorcycle rider
