Hello! Welcome to another page in my FAQ series all about Givi. On this particular page I hope to answer any questions you may have about the different kinds of luggage options that Givi provide. Is you have a question about Givi luggage that you can’t find an answer for here- please leave your question as a comment for me. I’ll answer it as best I can and if I don’t know the answer- I’ll put in the legwork and find out!
Q- What kind of luggage options are there?
A- There are a lot of different luggage options to consider if you’re travelling on a motorcycle or scooter. You’ve probably already considered a backpack- something most people will already have but Givi also do backpacks like the Gravel-T Range Rucksack that are designed to carry plenty while also protecting your belongings from the elements. But if you don’t want to wear a backpack or don’t have one- there are plenty of other options available. Such as-
- Tank bags– Bags that attach to the tank of your motorcycle
- Top Boxes– A case that attaches to a rack/fitting on the tail-end of your motorcycle
- Panniers– Cases, usually in pairs, that attach to racking either side of the back end of the bike
- Roll Bags– A cylindrical bag, it sits at the back of the bike, secured using straps or bungee netting
And there are are many more options available if you were to include the various accessories as well. It really does depend on the sort of thing you are looking for- Do you just want something that holds your phone? Or enough of your stuff to go on a getaway for a week?
Q- What is the difference between Monokey and Monolock boxes?
A- Put really simply- Monokey boxes are for Motorcycles with a bit more power while Monolock boxes are for Scooters or smaller bikes that won’t be going as fast. Most Monokey boxes are double-skinned and use sturdier materials which makes them a lot more rigid and allow them to take the abuse of higher speeds. Monokey boxes also have a mechanism that allows the key to both open the case and remove it from them fitting plate.
Q- How do I fit a top box to my motorcycle?
A- In most cases you’ll need a specific Givi fitting kit for your bike. You’ll need to know the make, model and year of your bike so you can do a quick google search for the type of racking you’ll need. Or alternatively [And probably a way better solution]- you can visit Givi’s webite and use their My Motorcycle page to find your bike and there it will tell you everything from the arms you need to what kind of Tanklock ring you would need for a tankbag.
Q- Do side cases come as a pair?
A- Usually yes, they come as a pair but I have seen some around where they’ve been sold individually. Pay diligent attention to product descriptions and have a look at any “contents” pages the product may have to be sure.
Q- What is the universal plate included in the Monolock boxes for?
A- If your bike already has some sort of base or carrier, usually only found on scooters though, you can fit the universal plate to the carrier without having to purchase an additional fitting kit.
