Hey everyone! I’m back with another blog post abut something we sell but this time its a little different. Its not a jacket or boots or helmets this time- Its the 5 Piece CE level 2 soft armour that we sell here at Ghostbikes.com. I’ve mentioned it before in several other posts, so its about time I said a little more about it. I’ve been using the stuff myself for a few months and its also saved me some aches and pains after I had a little road accident a while ago. So this soft armour is my personal armour of choice and I really don’t think I could settle for anything else or anything less in my jacket.
When I had my accident a while back it was a pretty typical, low-speed tumble scenario. Approaching a roundabout there was a nice, big, sloppy patch of Diesel in the road, likely either left by a bus or the trucks and lorries from a depot nearby. I wasn’t speeding or anything, slowing right down but I wasn’t able to stop because my wheels were all slick with bus juice. My front wheel turned left but myself and the rest of my bike kept going right, tipping the bike over and forcing me down onto my elbow and shoulder before my helmet hit the floor. I felt nothing hitting the floor at the time and I originally thought it must have been the adrenaline. Even after taking a few minutes to chill out I still seemed fine and I carried on home. Oh and the bike was fine too- I just bent the headlight and mirror back in place and I was off again. After telling people what had happened I heard the same thing from quite a few people. “You’re going to feel that in the morning.”
Nope, I was fine. No lingering aches and pains to remind me of that day at all. Although I am little more cautious around that particular roundabout now. [Also, sorry about the photos, I don’t really have a nice place for taking pictures at the moment.]
Back to the armour- Its a CE Level 2 approved soft armour that feels like a sort of dense memory foam. It probably has a long scientific name of poly-something-whatsit that I could never hope to pronounce or spell correctly off the top of my head- but its called a “viscoelastic” foam. It has the properties of both a viscous material [which is why its soft and molds to the shape of your body] and also elastic [Which is why its so good at absorbing impact]. When the material is impacted it goes from being soft to an elastic, so in the event of an accident it is able to spread the force of the impact over a larger area and essentially soften the blow. It’s some of the best armour you can buy and offers the same level of protection as the D3O armour at more than £10 less on the price. For a full 5 Piece set of CE Level 2 approved soft armour at £24.99, it’s a bargain compared to paying £35.99 for just a D3O Back Protector.
The armour did it’s job and did it remarkably, in my case, absorbing and diffusing the force of the impact where a solid armour would have done nothing of the sort, transferring all of that force into my arm. It is with a one-hundred percent biased opinion as a person who uses this armour and has felt it’s benefits that £24.99 for that kind of safety and comfort is a real bargain. Ghostbikes.com has a good range of different motorcycle armour to suit bikers needs that you can try but this is my personal motorbike armour of choice. Come in store, ask to see a set, slip it into a jacket and give it a try for yourself for a few minutes. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for reading everybody!
Until next time!
