Hey, everyone! Last month I decided I’d treat myself to a new lid. I wanted a bigger brand, was willing to spend bigger money to get myself a helmet of better quality. After mulling over a few brands, like getting a better Bell helmet or giving Shark a go, I finally settled on a new Shoei NXR Motorcycle Helmet. And I absolutely love it.
The Shoei NXR Motorcycle helmet is definitely the most expensive helmet I’ve treated myself to to date but after using the helmet for a month, the quality of the lid and comfort in the ride justifies the Shoei price tag entirely.
The first thing I noticed was the weight difference. The AIM shell with it’s fibre-based composition is so much better on the neck and makes even shoulder checks feel better and quicker. It’s also some of the best shell material out there. Light and strong to keep riding comfy but protective when it needs to be. The shape of the NXR really helps as well, a more rounded shape with unobtrusive ventilation that goes through wind easily and suits a load of different biker styles.
Speaking of the ventilation- the Shoei NXR easily has the best ventilation I’ve ever felt in a helmet. You can really feel the airflow doing it’s thing, keeping you cool inside it and that constant flow works brilliantly with the included Pinlock insert. It’s kept me fog-free without fail, even through a three hour ride southward in a storm with lorries either side of me spraying water into places I never knew I had.
The fit is great and feels comfy, the double-D ring fastening feels secure and it’s great to be going back to a helmet that uses one. A lot of customers have asked about the road noise of some helmets and it’s a hard on to answer. Road noise is so subjective, what is too much for you might be totally fine with me. And others just accept the fact that they’re a person in a bucket, launching themselves through the air at speeds humans were never naturally meant to go. The NXR is by no means a quiet helmet but it is better than my other lids to the point I don’t feel as though I need to bother with ear plugs on the commute to work.
For £369.99 to £489.99 [prices accurate 16/6/18] you’re getting a fantastically protective, brilliant looking helmet. Compared to my older helmets I’m able to see more, react more easily, control my bike better, ride for longer, feel far more comfortable, don’t feel as though I’m wearing a bobblehead and all of this translates into me feeling so much safer and having loads more fun.
Thanks for reading, everyone. Until next time!
