The Agrius Rage SV Helmet

Since my little bike accident a while ago I have purchased a new helmet. I decided to give a new brand a try to see how it is and I went with the Agrius Rage Motorcycle Helmet with the Sun Visor in a solid white for £41.99 . It’s another budget helmet available in a number of different colours and patterns. It’s also available without the sun visor which costs less but after finding it so useful in my old Shox Assault I decided to try one that came with it. My first impressions of the Agrius Rage were very positive, the fit couldn’t be more perfect for me in a medium size – Snug but comfortable all around and it’s plenty warm. The lining in the helmet is even removable so it’s easy to keep clean. The shapes and designs in the polycarbonate shell are simple but still look modern, cool and aggressive. The softly pointed chin-bar and the shape of the shell are also great for cutting through the wind and help to keep your head steady and facing forward at speed. You can feel a bit of wind resistance when doing shoulder checks but not enough to be a cause for concern. If you’re into moto-vlogging, like to have a camera mounted to your helmet for insurance purposes or want a helmet with space on for a bluetooth intercom- the helmet offers plenty of flat and clean surfaces to mount your equipment on to.

The air vents on the helmet are sleek and low profile, so they don’t spoil the look or aerodynamic shape of the helmet. But while you can feel that they do draw air in while riding- they don’t draw in that much. The visor only has three positions: all the way up, in the middle or completely closed. You can see this in how many notches there are in the visor mechanism at the sides of the helmet. The visor also has a spring-loaded component that pulls the visor backward when in the fully closed position to form a tight seal that keeps air and water from getting in and also helps to dampen road noise. But this means riding with the visor open just a crack isn’t an option which makes it difficult to get some more airflow inside the helmet and keep the visor clear of fogging. A feature I found very handy in the Shox Assault.

But the helmet’s short comings in the visor and ventilation all contribute to this helmet’s only real flaw- The visor fogs up. But it’s really easy to solve this issue by investing in the Pinlock insert for this helmet. That said, if you do drop the extra £19.99 for the Pinlock insert, suddenly it becomes an amazing helmet. Riding at speed has been a dream compared to other helmets where I’ve had to keep the visor open just a crack. And the noise reduction thanks to the comfy fit and firmly sealed visor, compared to those other helmets, is definitely considerable. I honestly lamented at my choice when I first rode home wearing this helmet but when I put the Pinlock insert in the next day- I fell in love with it. It completely transformed the helmet into a comfy, warm, functional piece of kit that for a combined total of £61.98 is well worth it and I wouldn’t trade it for another. It’s excellent value for money for a comfortable and practical motorcycle helmet.

The Agrius Hydra Motorcycle Trousers

Hello again, everybody! I’m writing another blog post about an Agrius item but this time it’s a pair of trousers! [Right now they’re the only Agrius trousers we have but that’s beside the point]

The Agrius Hydra Motorcycle Trousers are an excellent, low-cost choice for any biker who may be looking for a decent pair of pants to ride in. They’re also my current personal choice of motorcycle trouser and I honestly don’t really have anything bad to say about them. They’re made to be more of a Sport-Tourer style pair of pants that provides comfort for touring and general riding but also not pile on so many extras like full-on touring pants. It’s made of a tough Polyester construction that has a high abrasion resistance, the same as the Agrius Jackets. The Hydra Trousers are quite versatile as they have features that provide the basics for tackling a number of different riding conditions.

The fit is adjustable at the waist so you can make sure your trousers are secure and not going to slip down but it also has a zipper at the small of the back so you can connect your trousers to an Agrius Jacket [or whatever jacket as long as the zipper is compatible]. For overly warm conditions- the trousers also have two vents on the front that can be fastened open using poppers to ensure a good amount of air can flow in and cool you down. This is a welcome feature, especially now that the weather is all warmed up and it’s not something I’ve noticed on many other pairs of trousers aside from on brands like Oxford.

But if your problem is that you’re too cold- the Hydra trousers have a thermal lining that can be removed if you wish, which already makes the trousers suitable for a number of seasons and riding conditions. If one of those riding conditions happens to be wet with rain pouring down, the Hydra trousers are waterproof. However! That waterproofing does not extend to the two pockets on the front of the trousers, which is unfortunate but it doesn’t really bother me too much as I rarely keep anything in them that would be affected by rain water. So if it is raining when you’re riding, do consider storing any valuables you’re not okay with getting wet elsewhere.

Also for your comfort- the material over the knees is an accordion stretch panel of sorts that keep the pants from bunching up on the legs and riding up until they slip over the boots. It also allows the knee armour to stay in place so that they’re more comfortable and are always in the place they need to be to provide the most protection. So it’s also more protective and comfortable than a pair of trousers that don’t include this feature such as the Akito Python Sport Motorcycle Trousers. The material in the Akito Python Sports has way more reinforcement than the Hydras, sure, but they’ve sacrificed rider comfort to do it. I’d rather pay £47.99 for something that does the job and feels like it’s doing it’s job instead of £79.99 for something that doesn’t feel as good but points to it’s CV reassuringly. Great trousers in their own right but I love my Hydras too much.

Ever had your pants split? It’s very embarrassing, so for added strength where it counts, the seat of the pants have been reinforced and although it’s not listed as a feature on the website- this material also helps you to grip your saddle better and keep you from slipping. You’ve probably noticed that there’s a bit of reflective piping on it too, down the sides, around the back and a bit over the front of the thigh. The best way to protect you is to keep you from getting in an accident in the first place, so this reflective piping [and a logo] are there to help you do just that by being seen in people’s headlights in darker conditions. The trousers include CE approved knee armour which is already pretty good but it also provides internal pockets for hip armour if you fancy upgrading your protection.

As far as sizing goes for these trousers I would recommend going up a size from your usual pants. It makes the trousers easier to wear over other clothing- I’m usually a Large but I went with XL so I could wear them over my jeans while keeping the thermal liner in. I’m also quite tall- so when I bought the trousers I was a bit concerned whether I should go for a long leg or not but the standard leg length is perfect for me. So if you’re a taller person- don’t be afraid to give the standard leg length a go.

And that’s the Agrius Hydra Motorcycle Trousers! For £47.99 you’re getting a great pair of quality, jack-of-all-trades trousers that are suitable for use all year round and you haven’t burned a hole in your wallet for it. Because of the sport-tourer style of these trousers, they go great with the Agrius jackets, especially the Agrius Orion Jacket as it’s also a sport-tourer style. The Agrius Orion Motorcycle Jacket

The Agrius Orion Motorcycle Jacket is a Sports-Tourer style jacket with a short cut that allows for a good, well ventilated fit, all while providing features for rider convenience and looking great. I’ll be doing a few posts on Agrius Jackets but out of all of them- I thought to start with the Orion since I actually own one and I love it.

I’m a fan of the Orion Jacket a little more than models such as the Phoenix as this particular jacket feels a little bit more thought out. It’s made of the same durable, abrasion resistant Polyester construction that all of the Agrius jackets are made from and internally it’s more or less the same too. It has the waterproofing to tackle the wetter rides out and it has the thermal lining for colder rides out that can be removed for the warmer ones. I’ve been riding mine with the liner in for a while, I’ve recently taken the thermal liner out to try that and I’m still getting to work and back thinking “Holy S#!t, I’m dry!?” as my previous jacket [a ProFirst jacket not purchased from Ghostbikes, I might add] often left me soaked.

It even has the same armour as the other Agrius jackets. It has CE approved stuff in the shoulders and elbows but is lacking a decent back protector, which is a shame but not really a big issue. You can still get one for it if you wish as there’s still a back protector pocket just waiting for a better one to be slipped in. I put my 5 piece CE approved Soft Armour in mine as a more personal and comfortable upgrade; it fits in perfectly and I feel all the more safer for it. It has the same belt loops for connecting with your leg-wear but it also has the zipper for connecting with the Agrius Hydra Trousers, which are a sport-tourer style of trousers so they go with this jacket very well and I at least feel like I look pretty good in them.

Between the adjusters on the arms and waist as well as the short cut style of the top, this jacket was made to look good but still be comfortable. This jacket has two extra vents compared to some other Agrius jackets such as the Phoenix but they do make all the difference if you’re going to be riding for a while. I’ve been riding it while wearing a fleece jacket underneath as well as the thermal lining and I’ve yet to be too hot in it- at least while riding. I’m currently trying it without the thermal lining and wearing the same fleece underneath [for the sake of accurate motorcycle science]; I’m still warm enough while riding and well ventilated to keep me from cooking.

With the extra vents on the arms on this jacket you don’t have to sacrifice the warmth of the your hands for a cooling breeze up the arms by using shorter summer gloves and you can be a bit more picky about what gloves you want to wear. With this jacket you get all of the ventilation and cooling you need with the bicep vents that can be fastened in an open position, so you can go for a glove with a gauntlet to keep your hands warmer if you prefer. I would advise using a pair of gloves with either a bit of a gauntlet to them or a pair that goes past the wrist a bit with this jacket anyway. I have pretty lanky arms so I’ve been tucking the ends of the sleeves into gauntlets but the cuffs do open up quite a bit if you’d rather have them go under instead. I think I’ll try that on my way home today.

The setbacks to this jacket are minor and don’t really bother me- Really, my only little nit-pick is with the two outer pockets. They aren’t waterproof so I wouldn’t keep my phone in them on a wet day but I always put that in my stash-pocket [which is waterproof] anyway so it’s not a big deal. It’s such a great and affordable piece of biker gear I can hardly consider it a flaw. If anything I have to say I actually like those outer pockets because the pull tabs for the zips are so easy to get to and use. Unlike some jackets that hide the zip tabs under lips of fabric so you have to take your gloves off and get at it with a fingernail. Even the lack of a better back protector doesn’t feel like much of an issue as I either already have plenty of armour that can go in there or a new, full set of better armour is so easily affordable. It’s a great jacket for cold weather, warm weather, short journeys, long journeys- it’s a really versatile jacket for such a modest price tag at £57.99 and it still manages to look great. Whether you’re a sport rider, tourer or a bit of both- you have to give Agrius Orion Motorcycle Jacket a try.
