We’ve got another Oxford Jacket for you all to look at! This one is the Oxford Brooklyn 1.o Long Motorcycle Jacket and it’s got loads of features to talk about that make this one of the best jackets out there.
The outer shell is made of an abrasion resistant Polyester with extra DOBBY panels for more durability and acts as your first defense against the elements and rushing winds on your rides out. The material is tough and sturdy with hidden structure seams keeping it all together that are made from a 3-ply bonded coated Nylon threading- So this jacket is great for breaking through the wind, taking the abuse and lasting through it. One of the features I find most interesting about The Oxford Brooklyn 1.0 Long Motorcycle Jacket is actually the vents. They’re quite well disguised when looking at the jacket but once you know they’re there, you know they mean business. They are found on the chest around the collarbone area and the panels fold back to reveal some good size ventilation intakes- and they’re water resistant too so wetter rides out that get too hot shouldn’t be a problem as long as it’s not a proper downpour. The exhaust vent is located on the back, high up on the shoulder blades and is also pretty big in size.
Just from the location and size of the vents you can tell that air flow through this jacket is going to be great and you won’t have any overheating issues while riding. The slightly longer length of the Jacket is also worth noting- It helps to cover the waistline and belt of any pants that you may be wearing to help any unwanted breezes and rain drops from getting down there. It also means that you’ve got more space on the jacket for bigger pockets- which is exactly what you get. The pockets on the front are plenty big enough to hold the typical valuables like your wallet or even just keeping your hands warm when walking off the bike. If you want a nice deep pocket for stuffing your gloves in or small purchases made on impulse, there’s a pocket on the rear of the jacket located around the small of the back that should accommodate them pretty nicely. There’s also an internal pocket that can fit your smart phone that is touch screen compatible so you know your phone is in one of the safest yet most accessible places on the whole jacket.
The shell of the jacket also has several adjusters on the hips, waist, cuffs and collar so that you can tighten up the fit just right for you and increase not only the jacket’s protective performance but also reduce wind resistance and limit how much the material can flap around when riding at higher speeds. On the elbows of the jacket you’ll notice an extra zip on each arm- this is how you get to the elbow armour. Oxford have designed the jacket and it’s elbow armour this way for a couple of reasons. The first and most obvious reason is that it’s a whole lot easier to get to without having to blindly feel around the inside of the arm or turning it inside out. The second and probably most important reason is that by having it on the outside and having your adjusters properly fitted you are maximising both comfort and the elbow armour’s protective potential. By keeping them from shifting around the elbow into locations where they won’t help in an accident you’re ensuring they’re always going to be able to do their job. While we’re still on the outside of the jacket- you’ll notice plenty of reflective panels and transfer designs, this is so that you have 360 degree coverage of at least having something reflective facing all directions to make sure that when riding in the dark- other drivers don’t have an excuse to say they didn’t see you in their lights.
The jacket also has other pockets for shoulder armour and a back protector. While the elbow and shoulder armour it comes with is CE Level 1 Certified- the jacket does not come with a back protector. But it’s not so bad- the pockets for the armours are so easily accessible that putting in your own armour from another jacket you own is really easily done. Or perhaps you can try our very own 5 Piece CE Approved Soft Armour from as little as an extra £24.99, it’s CE Level 2 Certified so its really comfortable and some of the most protective and affordable armour on the market. I use it myself and I love the stuff- I’ll write something up about it some time.
Since we’re talking about what’s going inside the jacket, now is a good time to mention a few other internal features of The Oxford Brooklyn 1.0 Long Motorcycle Jacket. The jacket also has a waterproof lining that works together with the Storm Flap System on the front opening of the jacket to make it as waterproof as it could possibly be. In addition to that there’s also a removable, quilted thermal lining that is sure to keep you toasty on cool days and can be taken out if your ride is getting too hot. If you like your jacket to go with your pants there’s an 8inch YKK Vislon zipper on the inside of the jacket at the lower back so you can attach your jacket to trousers such as the Oxford Continental 2.0 Textile Motorcycle Trousers or another pair with a compatible zipper.
For £109.99 you’re getting one of the best jackets out there, Oxford is well known for making great quality products and they’ve put a whole lot of thought into this jacket and a biker’s needs. It’s tough, it’s protective, it’s comfortable and everything you could ever wish for out of a jacket – The Oxford Brooklyn 1.0 Long Motorcycle Jacket is sure to have it. The jacket is available in sizes Small through to 5XL and comes in Red, Black and Fluo.
I think that’s enough gushing for one post, it really is a top piece of kit and really great value for money. I hope you’ve all enjoyed the read, if you were looking at this jacket already I hope I’ve convinced you that it’s most definitely worth it. Thanks, all, for your time and take care!
