Hey, everyone! I thought I’d mix things up a bit and cover a motocross helmet since I’ve not had a good look at one in a while. So I decided to take a look at, what is in my opinion, one the most interesting MX lids out there- The Fox Racing V3 Motocross Helmet.
The Fox V3 MX Helmet is one of the more interesting MX helmets I’ve ever come across because it’s without a doubt one of the safest I’ve ever seen, there’s so much thought and protective technology crammed into the V3 that just reading this helmet’s CV of features makes me trust it with my noggin.
It really is a great example of innovative Motocross helmets with the different materials used in it’s construction combined with the other features that have been included, one of which I’ve never seen in a helmet before coming cross this off-road gem of a bike lid. Usually I’d save the best and newest stuff for last but I think I’ll lead with it this time.
The Fox Racing V3 features an MVRS – Magnetic Visor Release System. It’s system that is exclusive to Fox and it’s pretty interesting stuff, the MVRS removes the need for screws to keep the visor peak in place and instead uses magnets, if the name didn’t give that away. This is so that in the event of a crash, the visor is released from the helmet to help prevent further injury but is still strong enough to stay in place to protect the wearer while they’re still riding. This may seem like a weird feature to some but it has the potential to reduce the damage a rider can suffer in a crash, particularly helping the neck to not bend the wrong way in a more front-facing impact.
Another really cool safety feature of this helmet is something I’ve come across before- the helmet has MIPS installed. MIPS is a Multi-Directional Impact Protection System designed to reduce brain trauma in more angled or rotational impacts by mimicking the same protective concept as the fluid that surrounds the brain inside the skull. It does that by using a platform inside the helmet that shifts slightly and in a crash and this platform works to reduce the rotational speeds of the head inside the helmet. Very clever stuff that I’ve only really seen in Bell Helmets before.
The Shell it’s self is made of a multi-composite material and comes in 4 different shell sizes with 4 different EPS sizes. So you can get a helmet that fits you perfectly without any unnecessary padding that makes your head look bigger than it really is.
The padding inside the helmet is worth talking about too. It’s a DriLex comfort liner that is really soft, really comfortable and breathes really well. It’s also really good at wicking away moisture to keep you comfortable on hotter rides and keep sweating from becoming an issue.
Also to help with sweating from becoming an issue- the V3 Helmet has some really great ventilation. 14 intakes that allow nice, cool air to flow in and 4 exhaust vents to let all the heated old air out.
And you’re spoiled for choice on colours and graphics too. The V3 comes in different graphics such as the Draftr, Preest, Kustm and Matte Carbon with lots of colour variants to choose from. So there’s surely something to suit your kit. If not- well there are also matching Fox Racing kits available!
Thanks for reading everyone! Until next time!
