The Oxford RP-3 Aqua Motorcycle Gloves

Hello, everyone! Yet another blog about an Oxford product, I know, I’m sorry, but there’s so much from them that I haven’t covered. Since I’ve been thinking a lot about getting some Oxford products for myself, I’ve decided to share my findings with you about the products that have caught my eye.

I’ve already looked at a jacket and trousers so now I’m looking for a new pair of gloves. Something tough enough to protect my hands should they need to and something my fingers are free to flex and be responsive in. But like with the rest of my gear I need something versatile, they’ve got to be warm, breathable and waterproof. So I’ve taken a look at the Oxford RP-3 Aqua Waterproof Motorcycle Gloves.

Since I commute to work on my bike no matter the weather my gear has to be versatile and tenacious. Gloves that can handle whatever the weather can throw at them are especially important. The Oxford RP-3 Aquas caught my attention for a few reasons. The first is that they are leather and a good-looking pair of leather gloves that are also waterproof -and- affordable is something that almost never happens. They’re made of drum-dyed Cow hide, Goat skin and Aramid fibres.

It’s a leather glove that’s stitched together with Aramid fibres- does that sound durable or what? And they only cost £59.95. For a glove with these material and features with this level of quality, I’d expect they’d be selling for at least £100. So I suppose I also have my eye on them because they’re such a good deal as well. So lets see what else these gloves have to offer by going through my personal list of what I look for in the products I want.

LIGHTWEIGHT
Being made of Cow leather, Goat skin and stitched with Aramid fibres- these gloves are not for a short, casual ride. They mean business and as such, they aren’t the lightest gloves out there but I consider this a good thing in this case. The durable construction and materials of the RP-3 Aquas inspire confidence that these gloves will take care of your hands. They feel invincible in them and they make me want to go for a ride more than I usually do because I know that no matter where I go, these gloves will see me through whatever weather might come my way.

VERSATILITY
It’s surprising that these gloves are as versatile as they are, for a good looking pair of leather gloves you would assume they’re only really meant for dry riding. But the RP-3 Aquas have a Hipora lining specially designed so that it can’t be accidentally removed. It’s also breathable to keep your hands from getting too hot- so these gloves can handle a lot of different riding conditions and would be perfect. The only thing I would suggest is getting a pair of inner gloves such as the Oxford Essential Thermolite Inner Gloves for the winter. I usually wear a pair of Wool gloves under my bike gloves in the winter for extra warmth anyway, so this isn’t even a negative point for yours truly.

PROTECTIVE
There’s very little to add to on top of the materials used when it comes to the protective capability of these gloves. Between the Cow hide, goat skin and Aramids used in their construction- this glove is already really protective. But for extra impact and slide protection the gloves have moulded hard protection on the knuckles and fingers as well as a slider on the palm. Your hands feel as safe as can be in them, a feeling you can only get exclusively from a good pair of leather gloves. Nothing else compares.

CUFFS
Part of what surprised me about these gloves is that they’re so short, for a waterproof glove you would expect a little bit more of a gauntlet to them. But I don’t see this as a bad thing, a shorter cuff on the gloves means they should fit comfortably under the cuff of a good jacket.

GENERAL COMFORT
These gloves use a couple of little tricks to help them be comfortable to wear. The materials themselves are pre-curved so that you don’t have to tire your hands flexing and molding the gloves to a shape better for gripping handlebars. And the gloves use external seams, allowing for a little more room inside the glove for a more comfortable fit.

THE VERDICT
Over all, I’m impressed with these gloves. They seem like some of the safest gloves I’ve ever come across and offer the best of as many worlds as they can while still performing fantastically and being so affordable. It surprises me every time when I’m reminded that these gloves only cost £59.95 so it may be a sign that I need to get these gloves and put them through their paces. MX Force Gloves

Hey, everyone! Such sad news- this is going to be the last of the MX Force Blog entries! After using this entry to talk about the MX Force Gloves we have, I’ll officially have nothing left from them to talk about. At least until we get some more MX Force stuff in but I don’t know when that’ll be or if it’ll ever happen. So take advantage of our great prices on them and get some great stuff while we still have it, everyone!

So, the MX Force Motocross Gloves. Just like with all of the other MX Force gear we have, it’s great value for money being sold at prices that are at least 22% off the RRP with the best price we do at 43% off the RRP. That means the prices range from £9.99 to £14.99 depending on which of the gloves you choose. But no matter which you get, you’re getting a great item for a fraction of the cost. So lets have a look at our options!

THE GOODS

Starting with one of the £9.99 options, the MX Force VTR4 Rock-S Motocross Gloves are a great pick. They’re a lightweight choice, made with a ventilated construction to keep your hands cool. There’s Silicon print on the fingers so that you can keep a firm grip on the bars and have fine brake and clutch control without your fingers slipping off the levers. There’s also thumb reinforcement for when you need to hang on tight and give the throttle a good twist. These gloves look awesome in red or blue and although they don’t have much in the way of impact protection or armour, they breathe very well and allow fantastic freedom of movement.

Another glove priced at £9.99 are the MX Force AC-X Maxix Motocross Gloves. They’re a breathable, lightweight, cuffless design with reinforcements in the thumb and a silicon print on the palm and fingers for a firm and slipless grip on the bars. To help your hands breathe and keep them ventilated, the palms of the gloves are covered in perforations to allow hot air to escape.

Going up a little bit in price now, the MX Force Element Pluto Motocross Gloves are available for just £12.99. They’re made from an air mesh and Neoprene construction that makes them a bit tougher than the previous gloves but still alows the hands to breathe. The palm is padded for comfort and there are areas of light TPR coverage granting a little more protection for the backs of the fingers and hand.

Another glove for £12.99 are the MX Force Aim Mirage Motocross Gloves, probably my personal favourite as they go with the green Mirage jersey that I like so much. These gloves have a padded leather palm for comfort and durability as well as a silicon print on the first couple of fingers on each glove for keeping in control of the brake and clutch. The Mirage gloves also have light areas of TPR protection on the back of the hand and fingers whilst keeping the fingers flexible.

Another glove we have for £12.99 are the MX Force Glow Trump Motocross Gloves. Like all the others, these gloves are constructed from a tough but breathable material but they also have a padded leather palm for you comfort and to toughen the gloves up a bit more. There’s silicon printing on the tips of the first two fingers to give you a good grip on the brake and clutch levers. And there are light areas of TPR on the backs of the fingers and hand to give a little more protection in an off-road spill.

And lastly we have the MX Force Aero Rocket Motocross Gloves. At £14.99 they’re the most expensive of our MX Force collection but they’re still worth every penny if not more. They’re made of a breathable Airprene material and have a padded palm as well as a reinforced thumb. So these gloves are comfortable to wear and able to take the abuse of an MXer giving it their all. With additional areas of TPR reinforcement and generally looking a little tougher than all of the other MX gloves from MX Force, these glove are the most protective of our MX Force selection. And they look awesome on top of it all.

Casual Kit – Over the Hundred

Hey, everyone! It’s another entry to highlight a few items of a more casual looking kit, a wardrobe for a rider who wants to be able to hop off the bike and mingle into a social occasion without changing. But unlike last time where I challenged myself to find gear for under £100 pounds, I’ve lifted my own restriction and now I’m looking at items that cost over £100. It might not sound like a nice thing to do, looking at items that cost more but with the items costing more you do get a lot more features and value for money. As a result your casual kit should be all the more protective and versatile for it.

First up is the jacket and for this I’ve chosen the Rev’It Fulton Motorcycle Jacket. I chose this jacket because from the outside it appears to be a regular parka and no one would guess that it has all the features that it does. The shell is made from a Polycotton that doesn’t absorb much water and dries very quickly. It also has a Hydratex layer that makes the jacket brilliantly waterproof and able to tackle a number of weathers. It comes with CE Level 1 armour in the shoulders and elbows but doesn’t come with a back protector even though it has a pocket for one. It specifically takes one of the SEESOFT Type RV back protectors which for an extra £29.98 on top of the jacket’s price at £229.98 is well worth it. Its a great jacket that’ll serve you well both on and off the bike.

Next is the Rev’It Orlando H2O Motorcycle Jeans. You might notice a bit of a Rev’It theme so far but it’s only because their products are so good. And these jeans are no different, they’re a great, protective pair of pants with Rev’It’s PWR Shield technology to save your skin and SEESMART CE Level 1 knee armour to protect against impact. All this below a layer of great looking, stretch denim that disguises them nicely. But for £199.98 you’re getting a lot more, these jeans are great for taking on a number of different weathers thanks to a waterproof Hydratex layer. So you won’t have to change clothes after you get off your bike, even if it rains.

Okay, I know they’re not over £100 but since there’s a Rev’It theme going on we ideally want a casual looking pair of gloves that are capable of of taking on a variety of weathers. So I have to mention the Rev’It Mantra H2O Motorcycle Gloves. For £59.98 you’re getting a great pair of low profile gloves in a stealthy black leather. They have hard armour in the knuckles for the best protection, a fleece liner to keep your hands warm and comfortable and a Hydratex liner to keep them dry. £59.98 for a pair of gloves that offer all of that protection and versatility at this level of quality is an absolute gem of a find.

Lastly on the over £100 list are the Rev’It Royale H2O Motorcycle Boots. If the name of the boots didn’t give it away, I chose these boots for their versatility as well as their trendy, casual style. Aside from the gear shift panels, these boots look like a completely normal pair of hightop shoes. But underneath the casual exterior is a really great and protective pair of bike boots. Full grain cowhide and Rev’Its PWR Shell material make these boots safe and comfortable. Thermoform protected areas make the boot sturdy and protected against impact and the Hydratex Z-Liner make these boots waterproof and able to take on even the worst weathers. At £219.98 these boots are pricey but are absolutely brilliant.

And that’s it for my list of £100+ casual gear. As you can hopefully see when compared to the under £100 gear, when you pay the extra money, you do get more out of the item so while it may be out of budget for some, sometimes it’s worth waiting and saving up.

Casual Kit – Under The Hundred

Hey there, everyone! We’ve got to make the most of the nice weather while it lasts and get all the rides in that we can. But riding in the warm weather can be a pain to, being so hot in all that gear and a lot of bike gear isn’t great for socialising or blending in. So I thought I’d make a blog post to talk about some casual gear that will be great for casual rides, allow you to blend in a social crowd but also keep you well protected. finding decent casual looking gear can be an expensive search though and the total cost can really climb up depending on the brands you’re looking at.

So for this particular list I’ve challenged myself to only look at items with a price tag under £100. To keep the prices low there may have to be a little bit of compromise though, such as a bit less versatility for various weather conditions. So this list of gear is ideally for wearing on a nice, warm, dry day.

The first item I thought of was shirts. I’ve covered motorcycle hoodies and such before but until it was brought to my attention, I didn’t know that actual motorcycle shirts even existed. One such shirt is the Oxford Kickback Motorcycle Shirt. The “shell” of the shirt is made from a durable, slightly stretchy cotton, making things still feel comfortable and natural as a shirt should instead of a more tough-to-move-in material. It does well with abrasion resistance for what it is with extra hidden layers of material but to help keep your skin safe the shirt has a whole second layer to talk about.

That second layer is the Kevlar lining. Inside the jacket you have great coverage of 100% DuPont Kevlar, a material famous for it’s abrasion resistance and ability to hold up in extreme circumstances making this jacket very reliable. It’s a great, protective option that you could wear on a casual ride out, wear it on the bike and hop off without needing a wardrobe change. No one would even know it was a motorcycle shirt at whatever social happening you happen to be going to. At £89.95, this is a really great bit of kit.

This next item is one I’ve covered in a blog before- The Agrius Cool Summer Evo Leather Motorcycle Gloves. These gloves have to go into my list of ideal casual wear for a few reasons. The first reason is the looks- these gloves look great. They’re nothing flashy with lots of colour and in-your-face branding like you can find on sporty looking gear. They’re a simple, classy looking pair of leather gloves that’ll save your skin and look great both as part of a casual kit or if you’ve got a more classic look going on.

Another advantage of these gloves in that they’re soft. You can roll these gloves up and easily store them in a pocket if you don’t want to keep them in your helmet, making them ideal for carrying around with you. The next great thing about these gloves is the price. Not everything on this list is going to be super-expensive designer stuff and these gloves are my most favourite of all the bargains. At £14.99 you have to give these gloves a try.

Now on to footwear! The Akito Citizen Motorcycle Boots blend in disguised as a normal pair of trendy hightop shoes but really they’re a pair of protective bike boots. They’ve got everything a biker could need from moulded reinforced areas to non-slip soles and waterproofing. You’d never know that these boots were for bikers, even if you were to get up close to them and have a really hard look. So they’re perfect for wearing on the bike and then hopping off to mingle without wearing a lager pair of clumsy boots or something way more obvious. For £74.99 this is a really great find and I want mine in black.

For leg wear I have to go with the Richa Hammer Motorcycle Jeans since I own a pair. Wearing them right now, even! These jeans have been great and I’ll be investing in another pair soon since I like them so much. They’re a brilliant pair of jeans that are lined with Kevlar to give you a safe and abrasion resistant pair of pants. No one would even know that you’re probably wearing one of the most protective pairs of pants in the room. They even come with removable knee armour inserts so you have the choice of riding with a bit more impact protection. I love mine to bits and the £89.99 price tag has been well worth it. There’s a few colours to choose from, I already have a pair in black so I reckon I’ll get a blue pair next.

The Black Spike Leather Motorcycle Gloves

Hey there everyone! It’s Matt again here to talk about yet another product we have that I feel would be great for the summer. Actually I thought I’d already made a post about these gloves but apparently I was mistaken. They’re still worthy of their own spotlight though so I shall present them to you now! It’s another pair of gloves from Black, one of our own brands, they’re sporty, they’re comfortable, they provide protection as well as ventilation and they’re pretty popular as well. They’re the Black Spike Leather Motorcycle Gloves.

The Black Spikes are probably my second favourite pair of gloves on my list this summer, second only to another pair of gloves from Black- The Black Track gloves. And judging by how popular they seem to be, they’re on other people’s favourites lists too. They’re a comfortable glove for me because I’m lucky in the fact that I can get away with wearing a couple of sizes depending on the fit I feel I want to wear. I can get away with wearing a large as normal for a slightly snug fit or I can go for an XL if I fancy a little bit more room. But for my summer gloves, I do like a bit of a close fit, so a large is still my personal pick. But even if you do get your usual size and they feel a little bit snug- stick with them for a bit and give them a chance. Once the materials have given in a little bit to the size and shape of your hand you’ll find they fit much more comfortably.

The material the gloves are mostly made of is a soft, Aniline leather construction which is softer than regular leather and wears a bit longer. So you’re getting a good, tough pair of gloves as a base before there’s even any other protection added. But more protection is what you’re getting- the gloves have a hard knuckle armour that looks cool but, more importantly, provides abrasion resistance in the event of a slide or crash. There are also smaller points of hard protection on the fingers that provide ventilation as well as protection as there are small air intakes to allow cool air to circulate through the glove and keep your hands from overheating.

Part of why the glove is so comfortable is because of how the paneling on the glove has been done and the method used to fit the hard knuckle armour to the back of the hand. The floating knuckle, the panel the armour is attached to, is only stitched to the glove on 3 out of 4 of it’s sides. This results in there being a lot more flex in the glove and it allows the material across the back of the hands and fingers to stretch a bit more and not pull uncomfortably tight over the knuckles.

On the palm of the hand the gloves have a grip pad that allows you to keep a good grip on your bike and stay in control. It’s also all double stitched for a strong and durable seam that should hold together in a long scrape down the road. There’s also spots of soft armour on the glove in areas like the bottom of the palm and on the little finger. As someone who’s come of his bike on his palms wearing a pair of Black brand gloves, these areas of soft protection have my full confidence in being able to save my skin.

For £20.99 the Black Spike Leather Motorcycle Gloves are excellent value for money and are a worthy addition to any biker’s summer glove collection. If you fancy an upgrade- for just £24.99 you can get the Waterpoof version of the same style of glove. The Black Spike WP Waterprooof Motorcycle Gloves. So you can have all of the sporty style and get yourself a glove more versatile for wetter weather.
