Hey, everyone! I decided I should write a blog entry on a junior helmet, more specifically a kids road helmet. Road helmets in junior sizes don’t seem to be as common as Motocross helmets, so when I saw this one I decided I had to make a blog post on it and show one of the options parents have for getting their kid geared for the road.
The MT Thunder Sniper Kids Motorcycle Helmet is an awesome lid for your little one’s noggin and its got so much going for it. Its actually a really cool looking helmet in a graphic I really wouldn’t mind in a adult sized helmet too. But I’ve chosen to shed some light on this helmet because I’m as impressed with what it has going on inside as I am with how cool it looks on the outside.
So lets talk about how safe the helmet is. If its going on your kid’s head then you naturally want to know just what its capable of and that it can be trusted to do it’s job. Lets work our way from the outside in and go through each of the details that make this helmet a worthy choice for a concerned parent.
The outer shell is made from Polycarbonate, a tough polymer with great impact resistance that helps prevent it from cracking by dispersing the force of an impact across the shell instead of taking the whole brunt in just that one area. For what the outer shell can’t take- the Hi-Impact Absobtion Inner Shell takes the rest, further reducing the amount of force that the liners inside the helmet have to deal with.
Deeper inside the helmet is a multi-density inner EPS liner. Its a fancy way of saying all the protective foam inside it has differing levels of how dense the foam is. You might be thinking that means the foam in weaker in some spots than others- but that’s not the case. The different densities of foam are there to slow the head down in an impact and create a buffer to reduce brain trauma. If the foam was all one, thick, dense wall inside the helmet it wouldn’t do as much good as you think. The differing densities of foam mimic what is going on inside your head and the layer of fluid around the brain that keeps it from impacting on the inside of your skull. The foam inside the helmet works on the same concept- slowing your head down inside the helmet instead of letting the head hit the inside of it with all the force of the impact. It works, I promise.
This helmet is so safe that it’s not only passed the most basic of standards for being used on the roads in the UK and Europe, but it’s passed ECE/ONU 22.05P and DOT standards. It’s also ACU Gold Approved making it so safe that it’s allowed on race tracks and its also been given a SHARP 4 Star Rating and having a SHARP rating is prestigious in it’s self for a helmet.
And just because its a kids helmet- they didn’t hold anything back. The visor is an optical Polycarbonate with a high impact resistance, its anti-scratch and it’s even pinlock ready. The visors have an easy pivot mechanism so changing visors is nice and easy. If you want you can even get your kid a tinted MT Thunder Visor! Personally I think it’s really awesome of MT to make a helmet that’s so inclusive of all the cool features that a kid sees on the adult helmets. Now they don’t have to wait until they’re an adult themselves to look and feel as cool as their biker idols.
The strap on the MT Thunder Sniper features a quick Release Micrometric Buckle. It’s a simple and secure way of fastening the helmet on and it’s also way easier to figure out for a kid than the double D-ring method of fastening, even with gloves still on.
Perhaps you’re worried about keeping the helmet clean- you wouldn’t want your kid to keep putting on a gammy helmet that’s either been worn a lot or not worn in a long time. So the interior liner of the helmet is actually removable and is completely safe to wash.
From £69.99 this helmet is some of the best protection you can get for your child. It has such great safety features that any parent should want it for their biker kid and it has all the cool, inclusive extras of an adult helmet that’ll make the kids want it too. But if you have a means of measuring your child’s head you can see what measurement you get and order online accordingly by following the size chart for the Junior sizes. If you do this and you’re unhappy with the fit or don’t want it any more, as long as you have left the visor sticker in place you can always return it to us.
