Hey, everyone! I rarely get excited for a bike jacket unless it’s leather and looks really cool. But today I’ve decided to take a look at the Held Aerosec Gore-Tex Motorcycle Jacket because even though it’s a textile jacket, it’s got loads of features worth getting excited for.
I’m going to get the bad news about this jacket out of the way first – the price tag. At £483.99 [prices accurate 19/06/18] that is a heck of an investment in a jacket. But is it a jacket worth investing in? Absolutely.
Now for the good bits, which is basically the jacket in it’s entirety. I’ve never come across a cooler and more versatile jacket in my life. While it may not be the ideal jacket for riding in winter without layering up a bit more, there’s no better jacket for the warmer seasons even if those seasons decide to chuck a load of water at you. Which tends to happen in Britain.
Right off the bat, before even opening the jacket up, we’re greeted by a nifty little feature. No need to fumble around with a popper to secure that little tab the keeps the zip in place, just slap it on and let the magnet in there do the work for you.
Opening the jacket up, you’ve got three zips in total to get through. The main zip, the zip on the storm flap that keeps water from finding ways to the third zip and lastly the third zip that secures the 2-in-1 Gore-Tex liner. It’s a 2-in-1 liner because the mesh material is a part of the Gore-text liner, so while being a little warmer with it in the jacket, it’s designed to promote airflow through the jacket while still having superior water and weatherproofing.
But if you find it’s a bit warm and it’s a good day out, the Gore-Tex 2-in-1 liner can be removed, giving you a brilliant, breathable jacket some excellent ventilation. Instead of placing zippers and openings on the main body of the jacket, Held put a little more thought into it. By having nice, long vents up the inner side of the arm, the cold air cools down areas where veins and blood vessels are quite close to the skin. By cooling the wearer’s blood, you cool down the wearer. You can even use Held’s black magic system of somehow making some of their gear with two ways of wearing them. By using some snap poppers you can actually reconfigure the jacket for dry weather without removing the liner at all. How handy is that?
The Held Aerosec Gore-Tex Jacket is very protective as well. While it needs a back protector putting in it does have CE Approved Held Cloverleaf SAS-TEC® shoulder & elbow protectors, giving you some nice, flexible protection in the arms. There’s also velcro inside the front of the jacket should you choose to put in an optional chest protector as well.
In all, this jacket is awesome. There’s loads going on it that I dare not get into it otherwise this entry will become an essay. But despite the price- this jacket is well worth it. It’ll take a little saving but I definitely want one. Thanks for reading, everyone! Until next time!
