Hey, everyone! The mornings are starting to get brighter and the days are slowly getting nicer weather, so we all know what that means. Biking season will be back before we know it! I’ve already got myself some new leather and I’m itching to get them on and go for a ride. Well, I got myself the pants, anyway. I already had a Rev’It jacket to go with them but I still had a good long look at the jacket while I was at it. I’ve had a close look at The Rev It Vertex GT Leather Motorcycle Kit and it is awesome.
The Vertex Leather Kit is a race style two-piece suit with a snug, race fit, although the back of the jacket doesn’t feature a race hump. For me, this is actually a positive point since I regularly ride with a backpack. You could still wear a backpack with a jacket that does have a race hump but I just don’t personally enjoy the feeling of a low slung bag moving around my back and I’m a fan of the slightly-more-casual look it has.
Despite the jacket not having a race hump or obvious shoulder sliders, the pants do still come with dual composite knee sliders so that you can still get your knee down and look like you’re made for speed.
The kit is made mostly from Monaco Performance Cow Hide, so this stuff has been made from some very durable Cow- durable enough to take the high-speed scrapes and grazes that would come from coming off your bike even on a track.
For flexibility the areas of the Vertex Leather Jacket and Pants that aren’t leather are made of Lorica. A much stretchier material, used in select places, that allows for more freedom of movement and also helps to make the kit a bit more breathable even though the kit has perforation for ventilation.
So the Vertex Leather kits has excellent abrasion protection- but what about impact protection? The spine of the jacket, unfortunately, does not come with any kind of protection installed but it does has a large pocket for spinal protection to be put in. It’s designed to accept the Rev It SEESOFT Type RV Back Protector Insert perfectly so a standard back protector absolutely will not fit. Unless you plan on cutting one to size which I don’t recommend. The Type RV Back Protectors come in different sizes too, to know the size for your jacket- there is a little label near the protector pocket opening.
The shoulders and elbows, however, do have protection already installed in them- and some great protection at that. The shoulders and elbows feature SEEFLEX CE level 2 armour, some of the best stuff out there on the market.
The Vertex GT Leather Pants also boast armour of their own, with SEEFLEX CE level 2 armour in the knees and SEESMART Level 1 armor in the hips. And there’s plenty of stretch paneling that both makes the pants comfortable and keeps the armour where it’s supposed to be while riding. After getting my own pair of these pants I will suggest going a size or two down. These pants seem to have been made for a slightly larger specimen of rider- while I thought an EU 54 in a standard leg would be the correct size, I have to thank Rev It for making me feel like I’ve lost weight as the best fitting pair for me ended up being a size 50 in a short leg!
As a guy who is 6ft tall and goes for a 36UK waist for comfort in jeans, I feel like going down a size or two and trying a shorter leg is good advice. But for the best results I highly recommend coming into our Preston Showroom to try some on for yourself and that way you can buy your leather kit with confidence in the fit. Our showroom staff are there to advise on the best fit, whether the fit looks right for you and looks safe- armour that shifts because it’s too loose is no good to you.
The Rev It Vertex GT Leather Motorcycle Jacket is £399.99 and the Rev It Vertex GT Leather Motorcycle Pants are £349.99, costing £749.98 for the two together [prices accurate on 02/02/18].
While definitely having an up-market price, as a guy who owns a Rev It leather kit I can tell you that they are definitely up-market quality as well. Nothing else makes me feel as safe as my Rev It leathers. And call me a Power Ranger all you like- I feel awesome in them.
Thanks for reading, everyone! Until next time!
