The Rev’It! Horizon 2 Jacket

Hey, everyone! I’m still making the most of the spring weather by looking at items that still serve riders well in wetter conditions- even though I’m itching to talk about the more summer oriented gear with the sun daring to show it’s self once in a while here. And since the guys at Adventure Bike Rider Magazine like it so much, I’ve had a look at the Rev’It Horizon 2 Motorcycle Jacket!

As usual- I’ll start from the outside and then cover everything in the order that it pops into my head. So lets start with the shell! The Shell is made from a Polyamide material that has brilliant abrasion resistance, tear resistance, high melting point and durability. It’s kind of like Rev’It’s version of Cordura, taking all of it’s best qualities and making it into a light weight, flexible material that works fantastically on a biker jacket.

The armour inside the jacket is some great stuff too. CE Level 2 SEEFLEX armour in the shoulders and elbows and bare in mind- level 2 is as good as it gets. It’s brilliant that the jacket has such great quality armour in as standard but unfortunately the Horizon 2 jacket doesn’t come with a back protector installed as standard. It’s a shame that it doesn’t come with one but it at least provides us with a pocket that will neatly accept the Rev’It SEESOFT Type RV Back Protector that you can get for an extra £34.99.

The Horizon 2 Jacket has a mesh lining that is comfortable against the skin and is great at wicking away sweat to keep the wearer comfy. The thermal liner in the jacket is warm but it doesn’t add a load of bulk under the jacket. It’s great for three-season riding and then it can be taken out for the summer rides as easy as unzipping it.

To keep you cool on the warmer rides the Horizon 2 Jacket has some awesome ventilation. The front has two large panels that fold up and use poppers to stay open, exposing two big mesh areas that let plenty of air flow into the jacket. There’s also a zip across the back that acts as an exhaust for the hot air to get out, giving the Horizon 2 some great air circulation. If you need a bit more airflow, the collar of the neck can be hooked into an open position to let a little more air flow around the neck. So the Horizon 2 even works for summer riding.

The jacket also has some excellent weatherproofing, the Hydratex liner keeps out wind and rain and ensures the wearer that they’ll make it to the other side of their journey nice and dry. Combined with the fit and double storm flap over the main zipper, the Rev’It Horizon 2 makes a great jacket for tour bikers.

Priced at £339.99, it may seem expensive. But Rev’It are very well known for their superb quality and awesome results. And to make you feel even better about that price tag- the Rev’It Horizon 2 Motorcycle Jacket performs just as well as jackets at double the price. Even Adventure Bike Rider Magazine thinks so, giving it a solid 9/10 saying it’s excellent value for money! So if you’re willing to make the investment- you’re getting yourself an awesome jacket.

NEW!! Dainese D-Cyclone Jacket

Hey, everyone! It’s an exciting time in the GhostBikes showroom right now, with the Open Event all done and new brands to show off there’s all sorts of new stuff showing up. We’ve even got Dainese gear now! I want to talk about and show off their leathers so badly but I feel like it’s a bit too early.

So instead, while the weather’s still wet but more bikers are coming out of hibernation, I might as well put some quality waterproof gear in the spotlight and the Dainese D-Cyclone Gore-Tex Motorcycle Jacket is most definitely worthy of coming in store to try on.

Now lets get the bad news out of the way first with this jacket- The price is a staggering £679.95 [prices accurate 30/03/18]. Yes, it’s very steep but it -is- a Dainese jacket, you’re paying for some of the most famously protective and engineered motorcycle gear in the world. Definitely more than just a fashionable brand name.

The jacket is utterly jammed full of features to keep a rider protected and comfortable while also being practical. It offers all the protection of leather while having the weather proofing of a Gore-Tex lined jacket. The construction of the jacket is a cowhide leather with high durability. It’s tear and abrasion resistant to save your skin in a slide and is water and oil repellent to help combat the weather.

The D-Cyclone Jacket has rigid shoulder protection that is also covered in the cowhide leather, with removable composite protectors and even a CE level 2 Wave G2 back protector- this jacket comes off the rail with some excellent impact protection. Not too many jackets come with decent back protection already installed but for over £650 Dainese were right to put it in there. But there is a pocket for a double chest protector too- so there is still room to upgrade.

The Gore-Tex Membrane inside the jacket is your main weather proofing. Gore-Tex is famous for it’s ability to keep rain and wind out but still be breathable for the wearer. Usually it’s the Gore-Tex that adds so much value to these more expensive bike jackets but it really is worth the investment. Especially if you’re a tour biker or ride your bike to commute and commonly find yourself riding in all kinds of weather.

This jacket will see you through all weather types. Gore-Tex for the wind and rain and a really fancy thermal liner with high heat retention for the cold days and it’s removable for the hotter days which is best combined with the vent zips on the front and back of the Jacket. The jacket even has a removable padded inner collar, so if it’s feeling cold- keep it in and seal in all the warmth. If it’s hot, you can take it out to let all that hot air flow right out.

The Dainese D-Cyclone jacket offers plenty of storage space too for items such as your keys, wallet, phone and just about anything you would expect to put in a pocket, with three pockets on the front of the jacket and another two pockets inside, you’re spoiled for choice. The outer pocket on the front left of the jacket is the only pocket that isn’t waterproof though, so don’t put anything you’d hate to get wet in there just in case.

Dainese really are a top brand. I associate the name more with racing leathers and one piece suits but they make some superb gear for the average Joe rider like us commuters and every day, all weather riders. It’s definitely a pricey investment but it’s most certainly worth if for the quality and performance. Look after your D-Cyclone and you won’t need another jacket. If you do end up needing another jacket, it’ll be because the D-Cyclone did it’s job and looked after you.

The Agrius Softshell Motorcycle Jacket

Hey, everyone! One of our Motorcycle Jackets, the Agrius softshell Motorcyle Jacket has had a bit of an update!

I’ve always thought that the Agrius Softshell Jacket should have been called a hoodie instead. I know it’s not the right material for it but I feel that, if it were, a lot more people would be looking at it. And so they should be- it’s a brilliant, lightweight, comfortable jacket that both looks good and functions on and off the bike. As the name of the jacket may suggest – the shell of the jacket is soft yet it does well to break through the wind and protect you from the dryer elements. The fleece backing behind it keeps the wind from sapping away all that warmth while a mesh liner keeps things nice and breathable.

My favourite feature on the Agrius Softshell Motorcycle Jacket is the cuffs. Around the cuffs and wait of the jackets is a soft, elasticated material that gently hugs the wrist and forms a comfortable seal. Its a small luxury compared to some other jackets that I’ve had in the past with stiff, uncomfortable cuffs or inflexible waists that made riding more pain than pleasure.

The Softshell jacket has a double cuff that allows the soft, elasticated seal cuff to go under the gloves with the shell cuff of the jacket over the top of them but of course this only works with gloves that have the right size cuff. For everything else, the soft material in the cuff of the jacket should stretch over your gloves as long as it’s not really bulky like a heavily armoured race glove or full on winter gauntlets.

The jacket has two, zipper secured pockets on the front for your belongings. They’re a pretty good size so storing your phone in one and keys in the other is no trouble. But whatever you have in there, they’re safe from hopping out and hitting the road while you’re riding thanks to the zip closure.

The Agrius Softshell Motorcycle Jacket has CE approved armour in the shoulder and elbows. Unfortunately, while there is a slice of foam in the back, it’s more for giving the jacket some shape than it is for keeping your spine safe.

But the armour is removable and you can put whatever you like in the armour pockets. They’ll fit a standard armour size but to make things easier for you- we have a set of armour that would go great with this jacket- a set of 5 piece soft armour that is CE Level 2 rated and is some of the most protective stuff on the market. I use this armour myself and it’s been tried and tested. I frequently move this armour around into any jackets I wear that’ll accept it because the usual, harder, plastic-y stuff that a lot of jackets come with just doesn’t meet my standard.

And now we have new colours for the Agrius Softshell Motorcycle jacket too! So if black wasn’t to your liking before, you now have the option of grey and brown as well.

The only negative about this is what to do with the drawstrings for the hood. If you forget about them they can flap about in the wind a lot but this is easily fixed by just tucking them in. For £52.99 it’s a biker’s best mate through the summer. Its light, comfortable and perfect for dry weather and warm rides out.

The Rev It Burn Motorcycle Jacket

Hey, everyone! It feels like it’s been quite a while since I’ve taken a look at a Rev’It! item so I was quite happy to find that I’d be taking a look at the Rev It Burn Motorcycle Jacket today. It’s a jacket I’ve personally had my eye on, or at least a very close sibling to the jacket I’ve had my eye on. The both share the same design and look remarkable similar- the only visible difference being the colour. So getting to know this jacket is a bit of a treat for me as I’ll get to make a more informed choice on the new jacket I’ll be getting after Christmas.

As usual, when it comes to Rev’It! the first thing we tend to notice is the price tag. At £219.99 its certainly not a cheap jacket- but that’s the advantage of any Rev’It! jacket you’ll ever buy- they’re not cheap jackets. They’re not cheaply made, they don’t -look- cheaply made, they’ll do their job excellently and as long as you look after the jacket- it’ll look after you. The pure quality is worth every penny.

The Rev It Burn Motorcycle Jacket specifically is more an urban styled jacket with a sport cut and a tight, race fit. It would be great whether you’re zipping around town to be social, as a courier for commuting or even as a general sport biking jacket. It doesn’t make a half-bad casual jacket either, most motorcycle jackets don’t come with a hood attached to them so you can get away with it looking like a normal soft shell. But if the hood isn’t to your liking, it can be removed and it won’t affect the performance of the jacket. At least not while you’re riding, though you may wish you had kept it on if it starts raining while you’re walking about.

The shell material of the jacket is a high density softshell of woven material that keeps the jacket breathable, flexible and durable while keeping the wearer warm and dry. To assist in keeping the rider warm the Rev It Burn has a thermal liner, like most motorcycle jackets do. It’s removable so you can leave it in if you’re cold or take it out if you’re either too warm or just prefer a bit more room inside the jacket like I tend to do.

The jacket is kept waterproof by a Hydratex®|G-Liner. This is a coating that is applied to the jacket’s inner lining and then the seams are taped to make the jacket waterproof. It’s a great liner that gives the jacket a nice, well-rounded level of all-weather protection.

I would still advise putting on an oversuit if you’re riding through sopping wet, torrential conditions though, I find that sporty jackets aren’t usually built to withstand the full, unrelenting wrath of Britain’s weather at it’s worst. But still, this jacket really tries it’s best, it even has a double front zipper with a water catcher to keep water from coming through the front.

To keep you protected the Rev It Burn has Knox Flexiform CE Protection at the shoulder and elbows but unfortunately doesn’t have a back protector installed. Before you go thinking “no worries, I’ve already got one spare at home.” know that it does have a back protector pocket but it’s specifically sized and prepared for the SEESOFT Type RV Level 2 Back Protector. The size of the jacket you get will also affect what size back protector that you will need for it. You can usually find this info inside the jacket at the opening of the pocket for the back protector. For example, my Rev It Masaru Leather Jacket in a Large would need a Type RV Back Protector in size 04.

I’m really considering this jacket for myself, or rather I’m considering getting one of it’s siblings- the Rev It Flare Motorcycle Jacket. They’re more or less identical jackets in terms of cut, style and the shape of the shell, with the same kind of fit. The only real visible difference is the Rev It Flare is only available in black or green camo and the price of the Rev It Flare is £199.99, a little less expensive than the Rev It Burn. This is because the shell of the Flare isn’t -quite- as hi-tech, being made of a 600D Polyester rib fabric. It’s still a brilliant material in it’s own right and used in lots of motorcycle gear but it’s just not as uncommon or as engineered as the High Density Softshell of the Rev It Burn.

So the question is- do I get a Burn for safety? Or do I get a Flare for style?

The only difference is that other road riders won’t be mistaking you for Simon Cowell – they’re more likely to wonder if you’re top riding celebrity Suzi Perry.

Some people are just difficult. They want every feature going and, if that is you, there’s the Oxford Bone Dry Hybrid Motorcycle Jacket. This jacket can be bought for less than £100 but still has all the mod cons – including armour on the elbows and shoulders to keep your insides inside and a removable thermal lining to keep you warm on the roads.
