MX Force Motocross Kits

Hey there, everyone! In today’s blog entry I’m going to bring some MX gear we have into the spotlight. It’s been doing great in-store but I thought it could use a bit more attention from an online audience, so I’ll be specifically talking about the jerseys and pants in this entry but I’ll cover the helmets and goggles in another one. It all comes from a brand I hadn’t heard of until I saw all the boxes piling up a while back- MX Force.

WHO ARE MX FORCE?

So far I see them more or less the same as Wulfsport, they have great looking gear that’s made to an equally great quality but they have an affordable price tag. Or at least the price tag is affordable here with us at Ghostbikes as I hear that their products are worth a lot more than our price tags would suggest. Which is good for you MXers, your gear is more prone to damage than a road user’s, so a lower price tag makes the sport and style more accessible to more people.

MX Force and Wulfsport both even use a Wolf as part of their branding- I like Wolves so its another reason to like them for me. The major difference between the two brands is that MX Force have only been around for about ten years where Wulfsport have been around for 37, more than three times the amount of time to develop a name and reputation. So I’ve taken some time to look at their gear.

The first thing did was find the MX Force Motocross Kit prices to compare with other brands like Wulfsport and Fly Racing. For what you’re getting- MX Force definitely seems like the best value for money.

But the MX Force Kits currently range from £67.98 to £79.98 which is a really, really great price range to be in. I don’t have a dirt bike or go off-roading myself but for such inexpensive prices I’m really thinking of getting myself one of the kits to wear when I’m in shop to promote them. And also to keep cool on sunnier days in there, you can beat the heat in them since they breathe so well.

So how about a little more information on the jerseys and pants themselves?

THE JERSEYS

The MX Force Motocross Jerseys are made from a thin but tough and breathable material made from 90% Polyester and 10% PU Foam with lightly padded elbows. This results in a strong, cool but light weight fabric that has just a little bit of stretch to it for getting on over armour and such. And as I said earlier- makes them great for keeping covered but cool on hot sunny days. They sell individually for £19.99 but you should take advantage of our low prices and grab a kit if you can.

THE PANTS

The MX Force Motocross Pants are constructed from a much thicker and sturdier stuff than the jerseys. They’re made with a material composed of 40% Nylon, 50% Polyester and 10% PVC, resulting in a tough, abrasion resistant and lightweight pair of sturdy MX pants. The pants are quite well thought out too in terms of a biker’s needs. These features include-

A 100% Polyester inner lining for comfort and breathability
Accordion stretch panels on the knees for freedom of movement
Abrasion resistant Cordura saddle and leather inner knee panels
A ratchet buckle closure on the waist for a precise fit
Areas of lightweight TPR for protection while keeping flexible

The MX Force gear is really great stuff, especially since we’ve knocked the RRP prices down on all of it by 20% or more. So I reckon I’ll take advantage of this too and get myself a colourful jersey to wear on hot days.

The Shox MX-1 Motocross Helmet

Hey, everyone! I’m back to doing blogs about helmets so I thought I’d cover an item that’s both for motocross; something I don’t do enough, as well as an item from one of our own brands; Shox. The sun is out, the days are warm, even though I don’t do it myself I can only imagine that these are perfect days for going off-road. And I know our off-road riders love a good deal.

And a good deal is why I chose to make a blog about this particular helmet. I’ve seen many customers interested in it when they come into the shop looking for a decent MX helmet but don’t want to fork out loads like they’d have to for anything with an O’Neal brand on it. So allow me to tell you a bit more about the MX-1 so you can feel a bit better about putting down that other expensive helmet and feel more confident walking away with one of these MX-1 helmets.

The Shox MX-1 Motocross Helmet is made from an advanced Polycarbonate shell construction. Its a fancy way of saying its made out of really tough plastic but while that doesn’t sound very special- the plastic is more than up to the task. Instead of cracking and shattering under the force of an impact, the force is distributed and diffused over a larger area, letting more of the shell take the strain which helps to prevent the shell from cracking in a hard bump.

The shell and protective foams inside are so protective that the Shox MX-1 Motocross Helmet is even ACU Gold Approved, making the bike legal to take onto the track! Not bad for a budget helmet, right? On top of that, the helmet has a few other cool features too. The helmet has a quick release micrometric buckle on the chin strap so that the helmet is quick and easy to fasten up and take off.

Riding on hot days and even just riding off road can work up a sweat so it may make you happy to know that the liner in the MX-1 is fully removable. This makes it much, much easier for you to be able to keep the liner of your helmet cleaner and fresher, so you don’t have to keep wearing the same gross lid. Give the lining a wash and make it like new again!

Being an MXer can be rough business though and your helmet can be prone to little dings and we also often get asked if there are replacement parts for other MX helmets. Well, for the MX-1 we do actually have some spare parts. Depending on the graphic your MX-1 is in, you can get a replacement peak for just £14.99 and replacement peak fittings for only £5.99. So if you happen to lose yours or it gets broken, its no problem. Its a mild inconvenience instead of a whole dilemma that forces you to buy an entirely new helmet.

The MX-1 also has grooves on either side of the eye aperture and around the back of the shell. This is designed to hold the strap of your goggles in place and keep them from slipping around and keep them secure. The Wulf Sceptre Motocross Helmet

I don’t do enough Motocross stuff on these blogs. Its an unintentional bias that comes from being a road bike rider but I promise I don’t mean to do it. So I decided to switch things up and take a look at a helmet that I’ve seen is quite popular in the shop and I’ve sold a few of them to customers myself. I’ve gone and looked up information on The Wulf Scepter Motocross Helmet so that I can talk to you all a bit more about it and so that I’m also a bit more prepared to personally talk to customers about it in the shop.

Wulf Sport are a fairly well known brand. They provide great quality gear, meeting safety standards and providing great quality but they also keep the price tags low. Which is quite important to our MX customers as if not for them, their only other choices would be the more expensive brands such as O’Neal, Sidi and maybe a few others depending on what item of gear they’re after. So being able to provide quality gear at an affordable price is why they’re so popular. But despite the budget price tags of their stuff- their products are not cheaply made.

The shell of the Wulf Sceptre is made from a Polycarbonate composite. If the fancy, science-y names don’t give it away, it means its made from a composition of plastics designed to withstand impact and keep the weight of the helmet low, even the Large size helmet weighs only 1380g. A lot of people would turn their nose up at hearing the shell of a helmet is essentially made from plastic but there’s really no need to cross it off the list of candidates to be your helmet. Its strong stuff and has passed all the tests to meet EU safety standards- its even been ACU Gold Approved, meaning its so safe that its legal to wear on tracks.

The strap of the helmet features a quick release buckle system, a fastening method I personally love as it makes getting the helmet off just that bit quicker. The sides of the aperture at the front have grooves on them and the back of the helmet is shaped to form a groove as well which forms a channel that goes from the eyes and around the back of the head. This is designed to keep the strap of your Motocross Goggles secure and help from slipping out of place up or down.

Motocross can be messy business, lots of dirt getting flung everywhere if you’re riding in a more wild environment and the riders can definitely work up a sweat. For that reason, the Wulf Sceptre was designed with a fully removable liner and cheek pads for easy washing and keeping your helmet fresh. For £43.89 you’re getting yourself a safe helmet that provides all the basics that an MXer could possibly need without spending a fortune. It even comes in a few different colours too so you can stand out and match the gear or bike you already have. The Wulf Prima X Dual Sport Helmet

Every now and then I’ll watch something become more popular. Usually I gauge this by what I see going through the shop, the questions customers ask, see what items they like to pick up and so on. Lately there’s been a bit of a popularity boom in dual sport helmets and there’s one particular helmet that I seem to see more than others- The Wulf Prima X Dual Sport Helmet.

Wulf have always been a good brand to me, popular for making gear that looks great and does the job but doesn’t cost an arm, a leg or your soul. Most of the gear I’ve seen from them is Motocross oriented and you can pick up a whole Wulf Kit if branding consistency is a thing you like in your Motocross attire. But the Wulf Prima X Dual Sport Helmet is something we road riders can enjoy too.

So what is a dual sport helmet? What are they good for? Well, as the name may suggest, a dual sport helmet is good for two things. It functions as both a road helmet and a motocross or adventuring helmet. Its a great looking, best-of-both-worlds option if you’re into one or both of those types of ride. Or maybe you just fancy something a bit different. I’ve considered them myself as well, so I thought I’d take a look at what makes the Prima X so special.

The shell is made from TPR, a thermoplastic, which while it sounds cheap- its not. Its rigid but does provide some bounce from the shell in an impact, spreading the force over a larger area which helps to dampen the blow to the noggin. Its a simple material with nothing special to it’s creation other than heating up plastics into shape but its not just there to hold all the foam in place around your head. While how its made isn’t so complicated, its protective potential is certainly considerable. TPR Plastics are also very widely recycle-able, so as long as you dispose of older TPR helmets properly, you’re protecting your head and the environment.

The shell of the Prima X has been made to an aerodynamic shape. It keeps almost all that Motocross, off-road-y look but it’d still suitable for riding at higher speeds on the road. A huge contributor to it’s aerodynamic profile is the wide vision visor though. If it had no visor and had a pair of goggles strapped to it instead- it would be no more aerodynamic than any other MX helmet. But that visor is what makes it great for the road- all the aerodynamics and none of the bugs and mud getting between the cracks. And if the bugs hitting it are particularly tough- the visor is anti-scratch.

Behind the main visor is another cool little feature quite commonly found on road helmets- a sun visor. Its operated by a little sliding panel on the left side of the helmet just behind where the peak attaches to the visor base plate. Typically- any road helmets I get these days have a sun visor in, I find them far too useful not to have. The only helmet I’ve really considered getting that doesn’t have one is the Bell Qualifier DLX because it has a photochromic transition visor. Because when you have no other option but to stare more or less directly at the sun, you’ll be thankful for them. That peak is also adjustable in how much you want it to tilt forward or backward, so at least you have some more control over sunlight hitting your visor that way as well.

The helmet has some good ventilation, there are two small close-able vents on the upper forehead of the helmet but most of the airflow will likely be coming from the mouth intake. Its a decent size vent and should do the job in both providing a cool breeze and keeping a mist-free visor.

The strapping of the helmet features a quick release fastener for fast and hassle free removal of the helmet, so getting out of it when you get home or stop off at a petrol station is a bit more convenient for you. The liner and cheek padding are comfy and they’re removable, so keeping your helmet clean isn’t going to be a pain either. At £58.99 you’ll be getting yourself a good quality, great looking helmet that you can use on and off the road. There are cheaper options in Dual Sport Helmets such as the THH TX-13 at £41.99. But Wulf is known for quality products despite having a lower price tag. For the extra £17 to get the Wulf Prima, you’re getting a much more robust and frankly a better looking helmet.

The Black MX Enigma Motocross Boots Detailed Look

In today’s blog installment I’d like to tell you about an item that we’ve had for a while but has had an update worth talking about.The Black MX Enigma Motocross Boots are CE Level 2 certified! With ever increasing standards for safety, the boots have been put to the test and those standards have been met. So let me tell you a bit about the boot it’s self.

The Black Enigma is one of our most popular MX boots. It’s tall, it’s tough and it looks great whether you ride off road in MX gear or on the road and prefer a bigger boot. But depsite the size, all the padding, armour and strappings, the boot is quite light as far as MX boots go. The outside of the boot mostly speaks for it’s self. It’s a sturdy boot with protection all over the place from the whole of the inner side of the foot to the toes, ankles, calf and a steel reinforced plate on the toe.

There’s even double stitching in the key areas to ensure that this boot can stand up to the abuse it can come under in the harsh, offroad riding environments. There are four straps and buckles on each boot, they’re adjustable for length too so you can customise the fit to your leg and adjust for having the bottoms of your pant legs tucked in. The buckles and straps are made of a durable polymer but have metal pins that hinge the fastening and another metal pin in the end of each strap that keeps them securely in place when the boot is all buckled up. And also, the contoured, reinforced soles make the boots more comfortable to wear when on pegs but have been specifically designed for maximum grip whether you’re on or off the bike.

Lets move on to the inside! Looking in at the top, you’ll notice the elastic collar, this is there to form a gentle seal around the calf and it’s there to help limit the amount of dirt and gravel that inevitably gets into the boots when riding offroad. The upper half of the inside has a soft touch lining for a bit of extra comfort and it adds a little more room for tucking in the ends of pants legs.

In the lower half that surrounds the foot it is lined with a breathable Air Mesh that assists in keeping the feet cool. This boot even has a built-in micro fibre suede heat shield, it’s thought of all the things an MXer really needs. But lets move on to why I’ve written about this boot- The boot is CE Level 2 rated to the latest safety standards, moving it on from the old 13634:2010 standard from October 2015 to the 13634:2015 standard of the present day- In short and put simply, they’re one of the most protective boots on the market to date. So if you’re an MXer or even if you just like a sturdier boot, the Black MX Enigma Motocross boots are definitely worth trying on and is an exellent, affordable choice from our motocross boots range at just £89.99.
