Hey, everyone! I’m doing another post on an Exhaust from Scorpion! Please bare with me though, I’m still not as used to talking about hardware that goes on the actual bikes as I am what goes on the riders, so I hope I manage to cover everything. So what exhaust am I talking about today? Scorpion have recently finalised a new slip-on performance exhaust upgrade for the 2016 to current models of the BMW S1000 XR!
The Scorpion Serket Parallel Exhaust BMW XR 16-17 is one of Scorpion’s famous Serket Parallel Silencers and it comes as a kit that connects to your bike’s original catalytic converter using a stainless steel link pipe. So it’s Carb Compliant and there’s no need for an entirely new exhaust system. Since its a slip-on exhaust the kit also comes with quick release springs, an idea taken from GP bikes and their exhausts so that they can, as the name would imply, slip on and off. With it being a silencer, decibel killers aren’t required for this model, so your bike will purr at a comfortable volume but still sound awesome when giving the throttle a good twist.
You also get a choice of finish in the exhaust. The Scorpion Serket Slip-On Exhaust comes in a brushed stainless steel finish, a Carbon Fibre finish and a Satin Titanium finish, so you’ll have no trouble in finding one that completes the whole look of your bike. For an advanced performance exhaust, the prices also seem very reasonable too- the Stainless Finish is £329, the Carbon Fibre is £379 and the Satin Titanium is also £379. Which is pretty reasonable considering I’ve seen other Scorpion exhaust kits costing as much as £679.
So lets talk numbers, Scorpion Exhausts don’t just look great they help your bike to perform great too. The BMW S1000XR with stock parts has a BHP of 148.9 but with a the Scorpion Serket Slip-On Exhaust you can get up to 152.4, that’s a maximum gain of 3.5 BHP. As for weight- the stock exhaust on the S1000XR is 4kg whereas the Scorpion Slip-On weighs as little as 1.95kg. That’s a weight loss of up to 2.05kg, making the bike lighter and should improve the balance of the bike just a bit without having a whole two extra kilos hanging on one side. Personally I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference in weight, I’m not experienced enough but I know riders who can tell when their tyre pressures are off by 1 PSI or less. So I know the more performance oriented bikers would be able to feel the difference in both power and how their ride handles.
The Scorpion Serket Slip-On Exhaust is also EC approved, so those of you that worry about the legalities of aftermarket exhausts- don’t. This exhaust is safe to use, legal to use and your bike will even pass an MOT with one.
Fitting instructions couldn’t be simpler. It says the estimated fitting time is 60 minutes but I think that must also include a short test ride and final check afterward as fitting the exhaust has been made as easy as can be. Just remove the old exhaust, taking care to keep all the original bits safe. Fit the new exhaust, there’s only 11 types of component to keep track of and even though the design is intuitive enough there are still instructions available. They’re really easy to follow and provides a clear diagram of how it all goes together. Once on, check all the bits are secured and tightened up, take it for a short test ride, let the bike cool and then check the bits again to make sure they’re still secure. Easy.
If you’re after a cool, performance enhancing exhaust for yourself but you don’t have a 2016+ S1000 XR then don’t worry about it, we’ve got loads of Scorpion Exhausts listed on our website at Ghostbikes.com and you might just find something nice for your bike there.
