Hey, everyone! It’s 2018 and this is one of my most anticipated moments of the year- New Shark Helmets! I’ve had my eye on these new Shark helmets for a while, wanting an upgrade from my usual work helmet. I’ve been wanting something that could possibly be a little safer but mostly something that fits better, is a bit quieter, can handle the colder weather at the start of the year and something that I can customise a little bit as a personal project later. I’ve been looking [ogling] at the Shark Skwal 2 Motorcycle Helmet.
Like a moth to a flame- I’m a huge fanboy of anything that looks sci-fi and the closest thing I’ll ever get to that without making something myself, is the Skwal 2. LED lighting on helmets is really cool and not just because it looks awesome. If you’re riding at night- lights get you noticed. Better yet- something a bit out of the ordinary gets you noticed and this helmet is definitely that- you don’t often see bikers with lights on their head.
Despite looking as good as it does, the Skwal 2 seems to have been designed as a commuter’s dream helmet. Or at least it seems to be -my- commuter dream helmet. Lights to get you seen on dark rides home, an internal sun visor for the brighter rides home, micrometric buckle for easy fastening and removal, there’s a lot to consider with this helmet so I’ll start from the top- the shell.
The shell material is Thermoplastic. It gets the job done, tough, nice and lightweight and keeps the cost of the helmet down a bit. It’s aerodynamically designed, allowing you to ride for longer and avoid neck strain. The lack of overly fancy shell-shapes means there’s plenty of clean areas for mounting stuff around the chin bar such as GoPro cameras for those who like a cam on for insurance or video blogging purposes.
The padding in the Shark Skwal 2 is fully removable which is useful for a couple of reasons. It makes washing the padding very easy and it’s handy in case you want to install bluetooth devices with microphones and speakers inside your helmet, it’s actually designed ready to accept the Shark Tooth Blue Tooth system. There’s even a removable chin curtain and another removable curtain at the nape of the neck that help to form a snug seal and cut down on the wind noise a bit.
There’s loads more on this helmet to talk about that make this great for every-day use. Glasses grooves to make wearing glasses easier if you have to keep your specs on for riding. It’s Max Vision Pinlock ready with an included Pinlock Insert so you’ve no fogging worries on cold rides and it’s got it’s own 5 year warranty on top of it all. The Shark Skwal 2 is a fantastic helmet and from £229.99 to £249.99, I’m not even dreading dropping that cash from my next pay slip, so should I get my hands on one soon- I’ll be sure to make a thorough review!
