The Fox Racing Comp 5 Motocross Boots

Hey, everyone! More Fox Racing stuff! I hope you’re not sick of it yet because there’s a lot more blogs on Fox gear to go. I’ve barely scratched the surface of all of the Fox goodies that I want to talk about but, for this entry- I’m going to focus on one of the pairs of boots from Fox Racing, the Fox Racing Comp 5 Motocross Boots.

There are few Motocross boots I would consider getting since I’m mainly a road user but these boots might just cause that to change. They look awesome and they look like they can most definitely take the beating that the off road track is sure to give them. They’re just really comfy and they definitely make your feet and shins feel secure. My bank account feels a bit more secure too, these boots being considerably less expensive than Fox Racing’s Instinct Motocross Boots that cost £409.99. The Fox Racing Comp 5 Motocross Boots costing £189.99 is less than half the dent in my wallet, so your feet are still comfy and protected yet you don’t feel as guilty for splurging so much.

The Fox Racing Comp 5 Boots look great, whether you get them in black and white, white and black or the red white and blue- they look great. And more importantly, they perform as good as they look. The four buckles down the side of each boot are a soft touch aluminium buckle so they’re really easy to use and great for getting your boots on fast without a time consuming suit-up. So you’re on the bike and having a blast as quick as you can.

The toes on the Comp 5 boots are another great feature. We often get MXers coming into the shop looking for slim, low profile toes on their Motocross boots so that they can shift properly. Fox Racing have definitely taken this into consideration and developed an affordable boot with a low profile toe box for exactly this reason, so you can stay in control of your bike and give it your all.

The Fox Racing Comp 5 Motocross boots aren’t Fox’s most expensive pair of boots but they certainly still look awesome and perform excellently. I think I actually prefer the style of them over the Fox Racing 180 Motocross Boots that cost £244.99. But if Fox Racing gear isn’t for you, we’ve still got loads of other Motocross Gear and deals in our store that are sure to catch your attention and help you stand out as a rider.

The Alpinestars Stella T-Jaws Motorcycle Jacket

Hey, everyone! The weather is getting dimmer more regularly now, so I’ve been looking around a lot for decent kits to get a rider through the typical Autumn and Winter weather scenarios. We’ve had a lot of Alpinestars gear come in and as the proud owner of a pair of the Alpinestars Roam 2 Boots, I know that their products are the real deal for great quality when it comes to long lasting weather protection.

So I decided to bring one of our ladies Jackets into the spotlight- The Alpinestars Stella T-Jaws WP Jacket! It’s a sport-tour cut jacket with a sleek, aerodynamic style while focusing on superb weather versatility underneath as well as safety. It’s a really great ladies Alpinestars jacket.

The jacket is made from a poly fabric outer shell with areas of lightweight 450D and 600D reinforcements in critical areas. This makes a safe and sturdy shell that is designed to keep the weight of the jacket down while still being flexible and plenty strong enough to save your skin in an accident.

It has great options for the weather too. The thermal liner inside the jacket is detachable, so you can keep it in to stay warm on cold rides or remove it for a little more room to breathe on warmer days. Also for the warmer days, the jacket has vents on the shoulders that can be unzipped and opened for the best air circulation through the jacket. The jacket is also waterproof with a waterproof internal pocket for keeping what valuables you put in there safe. Just make sure those vent pockets are zipped closed for the best waterproofing results.

It comes with elbow and shoulder armour already installed, unfortunately it doesn’t come with a back protector but you can still purchase the Nucleon Back Protector seperately to go into the back protector pocket. There’s even a compartment for a ladies chest protector, so you have the option to really maximise your impact protection. Chest protector compartments are a feature I’m noticing in a lot more jackets lately and I think they’re a great idea.

The jacket has also been made for comfort as well as safety, the sleeves of the jacket are pre-curved so breaking the jacket in isn’t going to be as much of a chore and strain your arms on a ride. And there are select areas of stretch paneling for better freedom of movement, giving you plenty of flex in places like the elbows.

There are loads of extras in the jacket as well, adjust-ability for the best fit to you, a connection zipper for joining with Alpinestars pants, integtrated reflective graphics for being seen in low-light and more. Alpinestars are well known for excellent quality and long-lasting gear. This jacket will serve a multi-weather rider on their morning and evening commutes and tour bikers admirably.

The Fox Racing Instinct Motocross Boots

Hey, everyone! Yet another Fox Racing blog entry, we’re still very excited to have such a prestigious brand in our shop and I’m sure you’ll get tired of all the Fox blogs soon enough. But I have been saying for ages that I should blog about more MX stuff, right? So, you’re welcome and this time I’m presenting you with a pair of MX Boots- The Fox Racing Instinct Motocross Boots.

So lets get the worst thing about these boots out of the way so that all the cool stuff about them can lessen the sting of it later- The Fox Instinct Boots cost £409.99. I know! It’s a lot of money! But don’t let the price tag put you off just yet. With a lot of money comes a lot of reasons for it costing so much and despite what you may think; you’re not -just- paying for the world’s number 1 Motocross brand. Fox gear is made by MXers for MXers and a lot of research has gone into their gear to make it some of the most protective stuff on the market.

Your feet and shins are basically clad in armour when you’re wearing the Instinct Boots. They’re really, really sturdy but also really really comfortable. The hinged armour that surrounds the ankle serves a triple-threat purpose- Keeping you armoured, keeping things as flexible as an MX boot can allow while also having a hinge lockout to prevent the foot and ankle from hyper-extending in an accident.

The buckles and closing mechanisms on the boot are also really interesting, most boots I’ve been use a mechanism where a T-shaped rod slips into a groove and then the buckle snaps down, but the Instincts have something I’ve never seen before. Instead the ends of the buckle strap have a sort-of ball joint that sits in a concave shaped groove so the buckle can be snapped shut. It’s a really sturdy mechanism and makes closing the buckles a little more flexible and comfortable than on any other MX boot I’ve come across.

The boots have plenty of Duratac rubber on them too, providing lots of durable protection, shielding and grip. The boots have a low ride chassis too, that means your feet aren’t resting on top of massive, fat soles in the boots, raised up and away from the action. Instead your feet are kept close to the foot pegs allowing you to really feel and respond to what’s happening with the bike.

A big problem I see often in the shop is people needing boots with slimmer and smaller toe boxes so that they can shift properly. Fox Racing have also thought this through, keeping the toe area on the boot slim for a more fetching profile and practicality when shifting.

And if you really like these boots but the soles are wearing out on you, the soles are replaceable, so you can breathe new life into a good, reliable pair of Motocross boots. If at all possible, you really do need to come in store and try a pair on, you’ll feel the quality as soon as you slip your foot in and buckle up.

The Bell MX-9 Adventure Helmet

Hey, everyone! I’m back to looking at helmets for a bit! I just purchased myself a Bell Qualifier DLX so I wanted to talk a bit about that but I’ve already done a blog post that goes into the Qualifier in pretty deep detail. So I thought I’d look at a different kind of helmet and I found a helmet that I had considered getting in the past- The Bell MX-9 Adventure Helmet.

The MX-9, the version with a visor anyway, will go by a few labels such as being an “adventure” helmet, a “dual sport” helmet and may even be labelled into a more specific group such as Motocross. The helmet actually has a version that is called the Bell MX-9 Motocross that doesn’t have a visor and is purely for Motocross and offroad. Personally I like “adventure” as it sounds more fun but no matter what label you put on the visored version of the MX-9 it, it’s a helmet designed for being used both on and off the road. The original MX-9 shell with the long chin bar and the sun peak are what make it great for Motocross but the visor and aerodynamics of the helmet are what make it suitable for the road as well.

The shell is made from a Polycarbonate, a tough material that is sturdy in an impact, resists abrasion and is lightweight. All qualities that a good helmet needs out of it’s shell since it’s holding everything in, most important of which is your head. There are three shell and EPS sizes, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding one that is a good fit for you, even the chin bar is lined with it for the most protection. Around the shell you’ll notice intakes for the Velocity Flow Ventilation System. Its designed to keep you cool by allowing fresh air, as you’re riding, to be shunted in through the front of the helmet and push the hot air out of the exhaust vents on the back.

The Visor is removable if you’d rather ride with it that way, giving you the option of riding with motocross goggles off road instead but personally I’d keep it on. It’s a NutraFog II anti fog visor that’s anti-scratch and protects your eyes from UV light so I don’t see a downside to riding with the visor myself.

The padded strap of the helmet features a double D-ring fastener to keep the helmet comfortably and securely on your head. The lining inside the helmet is an air channeled comfort liner that is moisture wicking, anti-bacterial and is also removable, so keeping your helmet clean and fresh is as easy as can be.

Some of the Bell MX-9 Helmets also some with MIPS, a Multi-Directional Impact Protection System. Its an advanced brain protection technology that uses a “slip plane” inside the helmet. In the event of more angled and rotational impacts, the slip plane allows the head to turn just a little bit inside the head using small bungee-like attachments that keep this slip plane in place. This works to slow the movement of your head down inside the helmet and mimics the way the fluid in the human skull buffers the brain against hitting the inside of your head in an impact. It applies the same concept to the helmet and results in some very effective brain trauma protection. But of course, naturally, this means that the versions of the MX-9 that have this installed are a bit more expensive. But for what it is, it’s not -that- much more expensive, for this advanced brain protection tech- it’s only an additional £40.

The MX-9 Adventure comes in a few different graphics and colour options ranging from £149.99 to £189.99 depending on whether you choose a version with MIPS installed.

The Bell MX-9 Adventure is a really great helmet whether you’re using it on the road or if you’re blazing some muddy trails. And for under £200 it’s also really affordable for the quality you’re getting, quality Bell are famous for delivering. I can definitely see this one being added to my collection in the future but I may wait until my Qualifier DLX isn’t as new. Thanks for reading, everybody!

The Black Strike Waterproof Motorcycle Boots

Hey everyone! It seemed like it was going to be a lovely day this morning but now I can hear rain outside, so I’ve chosen a waterproof boot from one of our own brands to introduce to you all. The Black Strike Waterproof Motorcycle Boots!

I chose to present this boot because it offers the best of both worlds. Sometimes when you’re looking for waterproof bike gear you have to sacrifice on style in exchange for keeping dry. The Strike boots manage to do both. You get to keep the racer, sporty style of boot with ample shin protection but you also get to keep your socks from getting soaked.

The main shell of the boot is constructed from a tough leather, a great, protective and abrasion resistant material that will take the brunt of any abuse headed at your feet. To keep the boot flexible there are also areas of latex foam stretch panels that are designed to make the boot more comfortable to wear by giving the foot a bit more freedom of movement and allowing the ankle to flex.

For extra reinforcement the toe cap of the boot is made from a Techno GI Thermoplastic. That may sound like a cheap material but I assure you its great stuff, a flexible plastic designed to take impact and spread the force throughout the material. Its much safer than other materials such as metal like in a steel toe cap as metal can mangle in an impact or seriously damage your toes.

The boots also have added molded support and protection in areas such as the shins, heels and ankles to keep your feet firm and safe inside the boot, providing what impact protection they can and excellent abrasion resistance. The sole of the boot is made from a tough vulcanised rubber that provides great grip both on and off the bike and it also features an anti-twist mid sole made form molded Nylon that helps to prevent the foot from being twisted in unnatural ways in a crash.

Now on the the inside of the boot. Although you may not be able to see it, the inside of the boot has a Hipora waterproof lining, a breathable waterproof membrane that keeps water out, is tough but also flexible. Covering the waterproofing is an air mesh lining that is plush and comfortable on the foot, yet allows the foot to breathe and avoid overheating by trapping hot air inside. At the bottom of the boot is a triple density construction comfort insole, designed to keep the wearer of the boot comfortable with three of its properties; Its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and moisture wicking, so the boots are comfy and hygienic. They’re also available in white if you prefer and they come in sizes UK 7 to UK 12.

There’s a lot more to say about these boots but it all more or less amounts to me praising them. But if you don’t believe me, you can check out the customer reviews of the Strike boots on Feefo. With a rating of 4.8/5 you know this is a quality item and at £68.99 its great value for money when you’re getting such a versatile designer bike boot. But the Black Strike Waterproof Motorcycle Boots are just one great selection from the Black range of products. If these particular boots aren’t for you- they have plenty of others that just might be.
