Hey everyone! This blog entry is a bit different from the usual for two reasons. The first is that it’s a Motocross item, something that doesn’t happen nearly often enough. And the second reason is because its a Kids item! The Wulf Cub Flite-Xtra Motocross Helmet is one of few items for the youngest of us riders that I’ll have covered so I hope any parents wanting to gear up their offspring find this useful.
So why get this helmet for your kid?
You’d probably look at it, see the price tag and think that there’s no way that its going to be protective enough when it costs as little as £35.89. Well it may surprise you to know that this helmet has met all of the ECER 22-05 standards, so you can rest assured that your kid’s noggin is in good hands. The shell is made from a thermoplastic resin, a tough and impact absorbing plastic that disperses impact force instead of taking the brunt of it in one focused area which can cause other, lesser materials to crack.
The peak on top is adjustable so that your child has a bit more control over the amount of sun in their eyes on a bright day or if you prefer, the peak is also completely removable. The sides of the front aperture and the back of the helmet form a channel that your kid’s Motocross Goggles strap locates into to keep it from slipping around. The buckle on the strap is a micrometric buckle, a feature I personally like and you’ll probably end up liking too as they’re much easier for your kid to unfasten by themselves instead of struggling with a double-D ring fastener.
Next thing to talk about is the price. £35.89 may not seem like a whole lot and some people live by the mantra of – you get what you pay for. But in this case price does not reflect quality, Wulfsport make great quality products so you know that your kid is well looked after. Its also good for you as a parent! If your kid wants to keep up with Motocross for a number of years- they’re growing quick and will go through a lot of helmets. So its better to spend £120 on three helmets over a year than £120 on one helmet that they may grow out of in a few months.
It’s also available in seven colours so you should be able to find one that your kid will be happy with.
When you and your child have chosen a helmet, do make sure its a good fit for them and test for yourself. Your kid might say anything to get out of shopping or to get the helmet they want even if its not a good size for them. So make sure that when they’re trying it on that its seated properly on the head, that there’s a little bit of pressure on the cheeks from the padding and that their head doesn’t slip freely around the inside. A little bit of room for growth is understandable and can be padded out with a Balaclava from as little as an extra £3.99 but if the helmet is too loose- it won’t live up to it’s protective potential when its needed. Also make sure the helmet isn’t too tight as well, you can usually tell this by whether the helmet is putting up a fight getting on or off your kid’s head and the cheeks are overly squashed. For best results get something that fits your kid perfectly, then and there and I’d advise coming in store if possible to have one of our shop staff help you pick something that fits properly.
